Clothing – Textile Industry: Exports fell by 7.2% in 2025

Greek clothing and textile exports dropped by 7.2% in 2025, primarily due to inflation and shifts in consumer habits.

In 2025, exports of Greece's clothing and textile sector experienced a significant decline of 7.2%, according to the Association of Knitting and Ready-Made Garment Enterprises of Greece (SEPEE). The value of these exports was recorded at 1.54 billion euros, a decrease from 1.66 billion euros in 2024. This downturn is attributed to a prolonged stagnation in clothing consumption driven by inflation across key markets, as well as notable changes in consumer behavior that have evolved over the past three years.

The report highlighted specific segments within the industry, indicating that clothing exports saw a marginal increase of 1%, reaching 780 million euros, whereas exports of woven garments surpassed those of knitted garments for the first time in the sector's history. Conversely, textile exports suffered a more significant setback, falling by 4.5% to a total of 425 million euros. The cotton sector was particularly hard-hit, with exports dropping by 25%, largely due to price decreases, culminating in a total value of 338 million euros.

This decline in exports has broader implications for the Greek economy and the textile industry, which is essential for employment and local trade. The ongoing challenges presented by inflation, coupled with changing consumer preferences, necessitate a strategic response from industry stakeholders to mitigate risks and adapt to a rapidly evolving market landscape.
