Gabo Foundation opens registrations for journalism award

The Gabo Foundation is accepting registrations for the 14th Gabo Award, the main journalism recognition in Latin America, until February 20.

The Gabo Foundation, established by Colombian journalist and writer Gabriel García Márquez, has begun accepting applications for the 14th Gabo Award, which celebrates outstanding journalism in Latin America. The award is considered a significant acknowledgment of journalistic excellence in the region and is designed to highlight those who make impactful contributions to the field. Registrations are open until February 20 and are eligible for works published between February 18, 2025, and February 19, 2026.

Intended for works published in either Spanish or Portuguese, the award encompasses five categories: text, photography, audio, image, and coverage. Each winning entry will receive a prize of 35 million Colombian pesos (approximately R$ 49,000), along with a certification and a sculpture titled 'Gabriel', crafted by Colombian artist Antonio Caro. The award aims to encourage journalists and their teams to explore and present compelling stories that resonate within their communities.

Participants can submit up to two works, either individually or as a team, while ensuring that no two individual submissions come from the same user. This initiative not only recognizes the efforts of journalists but also fosters a sense of community in journalism across the Latin American region, encouraging collaboration and the sharing of diverse narratives that reflect the region's cultural complexities.
