Study commissioned by São Paulo City Hall says maximum number of revelers that can fit in Ibirapuera is 290,000 and in Consolação, 365,000
A study commissioned by the São Paulo City Hall indicates the maximum capacity for crowd gatherings during Carnival, revealing that the Ibirapuera Park can accommodate only 290,000 revelers while Consolação can hold 365,000.
A study ordered by the Municipal Secretariat of Subcities (SMSUB) in São Paulo has revealed the maximum simultaneous capacity for the main Carnival circuits in the city. Conducted by the Foundation for the Technological Development of Engineering (FDTE) and costing R$ 430,222.24, it was delivered in the first year of Mayor Ricardo Nunes' administration. The findings are crucial for managing crowd sizes during the city's carnival events, aiming to enhance safety and logistical planning.
According to the report, the Ibirapuera Park circuit, which recently drew up to 1.2 million people for a concert by Ivete Sangalo, actually has a limit of 290,000 attendees. This significant disparity highlights potential safety risks during large-scale events where actual attendance exceeds capacity limits, emphasizing the need for better crowd management strategies and infrastructure.
The Consolação circuit, where a recent incident of overcrowding and conflict occurred, is suggested to have a maximum capacity of 365,000 revelers. This information could assist local authorities in implementing measures to prevent future overcrowding, ensuring the safety of attendees during one of Brazil's largest cultural festivities. The study underscores the importance of understanding venue capacities to improve both the enjoyment and security of carnival celebrations in São Paulo.
