Rain causes a new landslide on the Luiz de Queiroz Highway in Piracicaba, closing lanes and causing congestion; see detours

Heavy rains have led to a landslide on the Luiz de Queiroz Highway in Piracicaba, Brazil, resulting in lane closures and significant traffic congestion.

In Piracicaba, Brazil, a landslide occurred on the Luiz de Queiroz Highway (SP-304) on Thursday morning due to heavy rainfall in the region. This event marked the second consecutive day of landslides at the same location, where a tree and part of the embankment had already fallen the previous day. The incident resulted in approximately two kilometers of traffic congestion at kilometer 158 of the highway.

Local news reports that there is mud on the road leading toward Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, and one lane has been closed by the São Paulo Department of Highways (DER-SP), which manages this portion of the highway. Authorities have informed that a truck will be deployed to wash the road and clear the closed lane, indicating that clean-up efforts will be necessary before normal traffic flow can resume.

Motorists are advised to take alternative routes, with the Old Road of Tupí serving as a viable detour. Drivers can access this alternative route through the city, heading towards Tupí, which should help in alleviating some of the congestion caused by the highway closure. This situation highlights the ongoing challenges posed by adverse weather conditions in the area, affecting transportation and daily commutes.
