Rain causes landslide and closes Padre Manoel da Nóbrega highway, SP
A landslide closed both directions of the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega highway in Itariri, São Paulo, on Friday morning due to heavy rain, but there were no reported injuries.
On Friday morning, a landslide occurred on the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega highway at kilometer 361, near Itariri, São Paulo, resulting in a complete closure of both directions. The incident was attributed to the significant rainfall the region has experienced in recent days. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries due to the landslide.
The highway's operator, Concessionária Novo Litoral (CNL), quickly mobilized teams to address the situation and said that while the road would remain closed, an operation named 'Pare e Siga' (Stop and Go) was implemented to manage traffic flow using the roadside. This approach allows for alternating traffic movement in both directions, minimizing disruptions as clearing efforts continue.
As of now, there is no estimate for when the highway will be reopened, making it crucial for drivers to seek alternate routes. The situation highlights the vulnerability of infrastructure in areas susceptible to heavy rain and landslides, underscoring the importance of timely maintenance and emergency response measures in preserving road safety.
