More than 155,000 euros raised for children's meals in the hospital
Over 155,000 euros have been donated to support children's meals at the Children's Clinical University Hospital through a campaign led by "Ēstprieks."
The healthy eating movement "Ēstprieks" has successfully raised over 155,000 euros to provide meals for children at the Children's Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) in Latvia. These donations have been made possible through collaborations with companies like "Maxima Latvija," the "Children's Hospital Foundation" (BSF), and numerous local businesses. The funds are dedicated not only to the meals but also to kitchen equipment and other essential practical needs, aiding in the faster recovery of young patients. In addition to providing meals, the "Ēstprieks" initiative actively works to educate the public about healthy eating habits through various activities like children's task books, recipes, and cookbooks. This educational component is vital as it helps children and families adopt healthier lifestyles, which is particularly important in a hospital setting where nutrition plays a key role in recovery. Ieva Damberga, a clinical nurse at the Children's Hospital, emphasizes that children undergoing treatment often spend days, weeks, or even months in the hospital. During these extended stays, it is crucial to ensure they are provided with the best possible conditions, including nutritious meals, to help them regain their strength and health. The initiative has thus not only provided immediate relief through meals but has also contributed to long-term health education for families.
