Councilman Pedro Duarte, who leads the Urban Affairs Commission in Rio's city council, has taken legal action against a municipal decree that expropriated a property located on Rua Barão de Itambi in the Botafogo neighborhood. He has filed a popular lawsuit in the state court, which is currently under review in the 15th Public Finance Court. Duarte's action seeks to summon the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro and to declare the expropriation decree, specifically Decree 57.362/2025, null and void, while also requesting a preliminary injunction to suspend the decree's effects until a final court decision is made.
