Allegations of Cost Transfer for Golf Practice Facility at Yoon Suk-yeol's Residence... Hyundai Engineering Under Investigation by Fair Trade Commission

Investigations are underway concerning allegations that Hyundai Construction violated subcontracting laws during the construction of an illegal golf practice facility at the president's residence under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration.

During the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, it has been confirmed that an illegal golf practice facility was constructed at the presidential residence. The Fair Trade Commission has launched an investigation into Hyundai Construction for allegedly violating subcontracting laws during the construction process. An inspection team visited Hyundai Construction's headquarters in Seoul from September 9 for three days to examine the allegations surrounding the installation of this facility at the request of the Presidential Security Service.

Previously, on August 29, the Board of Audit and Inspection reported that under the direction of the then head of the Presidential Security Service, Kim Yong-hyun, a 70 square meter golf practice facility was built behind the president's residence in Yongsan, Seoul, in May 2022, and was completed in August of the same year. The report detailed that during this construction, Hyundai Construction allegedly required subcontractors to absorb the costs, resulting in a loss of 190 million KRW for those companies. Consequently, the Board of Audit and Inspection has flagged potential violations of subcontracting law and requested appropriate measures from the Fair Trade Commission.
