Police selects from three options – now these cars are being ordered from Turkey

The Finnish police are acquiring 100 new Volkswagen Transporter vans through competitive bidding for various uses, including surveillance and patrol duties.

The Police Administration of Finland has made a forward-looking decision to purchase 100 Volkswagen Transporter vans through a competitive bidding process. This acquisition was confirmed by Jukka Rivinen, a chief inspector with the Police Administration. The newly ordered vans are set to replace older models and are intended for both marked patrol use and unmarked surveillance operations. The Transporter model has been a staple in the Finnish police fleet for decades, often recognized in its 'black van' variant.

Rivinen explained that the Police Administration had three options for selection in the procurement process: the Volkswagen Transporter, the Mercedes-Benz Vito, and the Ford Transit. While the Transporter was chosen, Rivinen noted that the Ford Transit is similar and has recently been acquired for official use, indicating a consistent strategy in vehicle selection based on performance specifications. Both the Transit and the new Transporter models are produced as sibling models in Ford's manufacturing facilities in Turkey, allowing for streamlined logistical processes in acquiring these vehicles.

The decision to select the Transporter showcases a commitment to modernizing the police vehicle fleet while maintaining versatile options for their operational needs. Such updates not only enhance the functionality of police work but also reflect a strategic alignment with broader goals of increasing efficiency and effectiveness in law enforcement across the country.
