Group rallies support for Ogoni varsity

A group named 'Ogoni Beyond Oil and Politics' is advocating for multinational oil companies to support the recently established Federal University of Environment and Technology in Rivers State, Nigeria, to facilitate the training of local youths for the oil and gas industry.

The advocacy group 'Ogoni Beyond Oil and Politics' has called upon multinational oil companies active in the Niger Delta region to contribute to the newly formed Federal University of Environment and Technology (FUET) located in the Koroma/Saakpenwa area of Rivers State. This initiative seeks to leverage the presence of the university for the development of local talent, particularly training Ogoni youths in skills relevant to the oil and gas sector, which remains a crucial economic driver in the region.

The demand for skilled labor in the oil and gas industry has prompted HRH Kadilo Kabari, the group's convener and the Paramount Ruler of the Barako Community, to emphasize the importance of training opportunities for local students. This call comes at a pivotal moment when discussions between the Federal Government and Ogoni stakeholders are taking place regarding the resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland. Kabari believes that the investment in education and vocational training for young Ogonis is essential for sustaining local development and ensuring that the benefits of oil exploration are shared with the community.

This move not only aims to prepare the youth for employment in the oil sector but also advocates for a responsible and community-focused approach to oil extraction. By urging oil companies to support the university's initiatives, the group hopes to foster a new generation of professionals who can engage with the industry ethically and sustainably, thereby benefiting both the local community and the national economy.
