Lee Chang-gon has been appointed as the chairman of the Samu Finance Ubuntu Foundation amid concerns over emerging inequalities and labor rights issues exacerbated by crises and rapid changes in AI technology.

On December 12, Lee Chang-gon was appointed as the chairman of the Samu Finance Ubuntu Foundation, a position that places him at the forefront of addressing new inequalities and labor rights challenges triggered by complex crises and rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technology. In his inaugural speech, Lee emphasized the crucial need for the Ubuntu spirit, which promotes the idea that 'I am because we are,' highlighting the importance of fostering a discrimination-free workplace and a society where everyone can thrive together.

Lee brings extensive experience in social discourse surrounding welfare, inequality, and labor rights, having previously served as the director of the Hankyoreh Economic and Social Institute and a member of various associated organizations. He is currently an adjunct professor at Chung-Ang University, teaching courses on British welfare thought, climate crisis and green welfare, and welfare politics. Through his writings and leadership roles in public forums, he has outlined visions for the welfare state and addressed issues embedded in societal inequality and the need for a green welfare state to respond to today's ecological challenges.

The Ubuntu Foundation was established in 2019 to address inequality and polarization within the financial and labor sectors, aiming to improve conditions for irregular employees and uphold fundamental labor rights. The foundation focuses on creating a social solidarity fund to support disadvantaged workers. Lee, who has been involved with the foundation since its inception, is expected to leverage his expertise in welfare policy and labor rights advocacy to further the foundation's mission and goals in this new role.
