Carnival in PE will have 24-hour police stations, police operation for the end of the party, and increased security
Pernambuco's security department has unveiled a comprehensive security plan for the 2026 Carnival, including 24-hour police stations and a new operation to manage post-celebration crowds.
The Pernambuco State Department of Social Defense (SDS) has announced the security measures for the upcoming Carnival in 2026. One of the notable initiatives is the establishment of the 'Dispersal Operation', which will specifically target the period immediately following the official end of the festivities in various Carnival centers. This strategy aims to address the challenges posed by large crowds remaining on the streets after the celebrations have concluded.
In addition to the Dispersal Operation, there will be an increase of 3,000 security personnel deployed throughout the state, emphasizing a strong law enforcement presence in both the metropolitan area of Recife and the Carnival events in rural areas. An innovative electronic scheduling system will also be introduced within the Military Police to optimize workforce management and enhance security operations, which is a notable shift for the region.
Furthermore, all police stations in the area will operate 24 hours during the Carnival, ensuring immediate assistance and response capabilities. Colonel Ivanildo Torres, the commander-general of the Military Police, stressed that these measures are designed to decrease incidents that typically occur after the festivities, particularly when revelers linger in the streets. By implementing these initiatives, the authorities aim to create a safer environment for both locals and tourists during one of Brazil's most celebrated events.
