Carnival Block 'Moraes & Moreira' Parades in Barris, Salvador
The 'Moraes & Moreira' carnival block is set to parade through the streets of Barris in Salvador, celebrating its 11th edition on March 11.
The 'Moraes & Moreira' carnival block will celebrate its 11th parade in the Barris neighborhood of Salvador on Wednesday, March 11. The event will begin its concentration at 6 PM in front of the Bahia Public Library, with the procession kicking off at 8 PM. This year, the parade will be led by the Batucada Moraes & Moreira with 40 percussionists performing a repertoire that honors the songs of Moraes Moreira and other celebrated composers, under the leadership of vocalist Guigga.
The chosen theme for this year's block is "Latin America is No One's Backyard", intertwining the festive spirit of Carnival with the group's critical stance that has characterized the organization since its inception 13 years ago. This theme reflects a broader cultural narrative, highlighting social issues and embracing the spirit of unity within the region. Participants can purchase the block's shirt for R$ 50 online, showcasing a commitment to local culture and supporting the event.
Operating without barriers, the Moraes & Moreira block is part of a grassroots movement aimed at revitalizing street carnival celebrations in downtown Salvador. Organized by the Movimento Etílico do Barris, this event not only promises to engage the local community but also represents a significant aspect of Salvador's vibrant carnival culture, emphasizing inclusivity and local pride in a thriving artistic scene.
