VIDEO: Car falls into a crater opened after a water pipeline burst in Governador Valadares
A car fell into a crater that opened on Monte Azul Street in Governador Valadares after a water pipe burst, but no injuries were reported.
A vehicle fell into a large crater that had formed on Monte Azul Street in the Esperança neighborhood of Governador Valadares, Brazil, following the burst of a major water pipeline. The incident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, October 11, and was reported by the local water company, Águas de Valadares. Fortunately, no one was injured despite the dramatic nature of the incident, which was captured on social media showing the car being swallowed by the crater, which was already filled with water at the time of the accident.
The rupture of the water pipeline led to significant soil instability, resulting in the formation of the crater on the roadway. The water company explained that the burst involved a large-diameter pipeline known as a water adutora. Technical teams were deployed promptly to repair the damaged infrastructure and assessed the extent of the leak to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Águas de Valadares indicated that the repair work is ongoing and is expected to continue until nighttime on Wednesday. Water supply is anticipated to be gradually restored by around 8 PM, ensuring that residents in the area are not left without service for extended periods. This incident highlights the importance of maintaining infrastructure to prevent accidents and disruption in urban areas.
