Parked car falls into crater after pavement collapses on BR-420 in Mutuípe

A parked car fell into a crater that opened on BR-420 in Mutuípe, Brazil, although no injuries were reported.

On the morning of Monday, October 9, a parked vehicle fell into a crater that suddenly formed on BR-420 in Mutuípe, located in the Vale do Jiquiriçá region of Brazil. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The local municipal government provided information indicating that the roadway had completely collapsed at the site, leading to a full closure of BR-420 in both directions.

Emergency teams were mobilized to retrieve the vehicle and assess the condition of the road. Two backhoes were sent to assist in the removal of the car, which had become trapped within the crater. The city officials noted that the cause of the crater's formation might be linked to a burst water pipe, which likely led to the ground subsidence responsible for the road's collapse, creating a hole that measures approximately four meters across.

The owner of the submerged vehicle promptly contacted a tow service and reported the incident to their insurance provider. Additionally, the Bahia Water Supply and Sanitation Company (Embasa) was notified and is present at the scene to evaluate the damage alongside municipal authorities, emphasizing the need for infrastructure maintenance in the area to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
