Government transfers R$ 56 million from Social Security to works at Novo MT Park

The government of Mato Grosso has redirected R$ 56.6 million meant for social security to fund the construction of Novo Mato Grosso Park in Cuiabá.

The Mato Grosso government has announced a significant financial maneuver, reallocating R$ 56.6 million intended to cover the deficit in the Social Security Regime (RPPS) to bolster funding for the construction of the Novo Mato Grosso Park in Cuiabá. This decision was formalized through a decree published in the Official Gazette, highlighting a shift in budget priorities to focus on local infrastructure projects.

To facilitate this transfer, the government has annulled a previously allocated budget for social security related to the State Department of Finance (Sefaz) and redirected the funds to MT Participações e Projetos S.A. (MT-Par), the firm tasked with the park's development. This strategic move aims to expedite the park's construction, which is seen as vital for enhancing public spaces in the region.

Despite efforts by g1 to gain insights from the government and MT-Par regarding the reasons for this allocation shift and the specific projects the funds will support, there has yet to be a response. This raises questions about transparency in governmental financial decisions, especially when funds earmarked for social security are reallocated to a recreational project, prompting discussions around fiscal management priorities and accountability in public spending.
