Interstate bus overturns and leaves more than 10 injured in Bahia
An interstate bus accident in Bahia has left over 10 people injured, with some requiring hospitalization due to the severity of their injuries.
In the early hours of Wednesday, an interstate bus overturned on BR-020 in Roda Velha, a district of São Desidério in western Bahia, resulting in more than 10 injuries among the passengers. The bus, operated by Real Maia, was traveling from Goiânia, Goiás, to Caracol in Piauí, carrying a total of 42 passengers when the accident occurred. Emergency services reported that two individuals were trapped in the wreckage but were extricated alive, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Responders from the Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência (Samu) attended to the scene, providing immediate aid to the injured. The local health post attended to 14 individuals who were unharmed and released after evaluation. Meanwhile, 12 other victims suffered injuries that required them to be transported to the Unidade de Pronto Atendimento (UPA) in Luís Eduardo Magalhães, with two of them necessitating further transfer to the Hospital do Oeste for advanced medical care.
This incident underscores the ongoing concerns regarding road safety for inter-state travel in Brazil, as accidents of this nature often prompt discussions around vehicle maintenance and driver safety regulations. The number of injured highlights the need for stringent safety measures to protect passengers, particularly in regions with heavy traffic on major highways like BR-020, raising questions about the safety protocols of transportation companies operating in Brazil.
