Switzerland approves β¬35m energy aid package for Ukraine
Switzerland has approved a β¬35 million energy aid package for Ukraine, providing generators and power modules to assist with the country's energy crisis.
The Swiss Federal Council has recently approved an energy aid package totaling 32 million Swiss francs, equivalent to β¬35 million, aimed at supporting Ukraine amid ongoing energy challenges. This package includes the provision of 80 generators of varying capacities and 18 gas-powered power modules specifically requested by the Ukrainian government. These resources are critical in addressing the urgent energy needs exacerbated by the ongoing conflict and coinciding energy crisis in Ukraine.
In addition to the generators and power modules, the aid package covers additional equipment and transportation costs, ensuring that these essential resources can be delivered effectively. The power modules are intended to be linked to district heating systems in four major Ukrainian cities that have been significantly affected by the energy shortages. The assistance provided by Switzerland highlights international solidarity and humanitarian support for Ukraine during this challenging period.
The Swiss government has already begun the logistics for the initial batch of generators and other heating devices, with immediate plans for deployment by Ukraine's Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. This timely support from Switzerland is expected to enhance Ukraine's resilience against the energy crisis, providing necessary relief for communities struggling to maintain heating and power supplies through the winter months.
