More than a million euros have been raised for generators for Ukraine. It has moved us, says the embassy

A fundraising campaign in Slovakia has raised over a million euros for electrical generators to aid Ukraine during the winter amidst ongoing conflict.

A significant fundraising campaign called 'Teplo pre Ukrajinu' in Slovakia has successfully raised over 1 million euros to provide electrical generators for Ukrainian cities severely affected by the winter conditions amid the ongoing Russian invasion. Humanitarian organizations, including Adra, have been actively involved in delivering these crucial supplies to Ukraine. The efforts highlight the dedication of Slovak citizens and organizations in supporting their neighbors during these difficult times.

Stanislav Koník from Adra describes the perilous conditions faced in areas near the Russian border, mentioning the loss of GPS and phone signals as ominous warnings of impending danger. These generators are vital as Ukrainian cities face one of the harshest winters in four years due to the conflict, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis. Each generator can significantly improve living conditions for civilians who have already been suffering from severe disruptions to electricity and infrastructure.

The campaign has seen involvement from thousands of donors, with over 19,561 contributing to the cause. As the logistics of transporting and distributing these generators remain challenging, the ongoing commitment from Slovak citizens to support Ukraine is both a display of neighborly solidarity and a testament to the persistent struggle faced by those living in war-torn regions.
