Tonight, from Wednesday evening into Thursday, prolonged snowfall is expected in the Latgale and Selia regions of Latvia according to meteorologists. The forecast indicates that southern Latgale may receive 5-7 centimeters of fresh snow, prompting the Latvian Environment, Geology, and Meteorology Centre to issue a yellow warning for the area. Light snow is also forecasted for Thursday daytime in this region, while other parts of the country are not expected to see significant precipitation.
On Thursday, some areas will see sunshine, with the brightest conditions expected in northern Latvia. A light to moderate northeast wind will blow, and temperatures are predicted to rise slightly. The maximum air temperature is expected to range from 0 degrees Celsius in southern Latgale to -6 degrees Celsius in parts of northern Vidzeme and on the coast of Kurzeme by the Riga Gulf.
In Riga, snowfall is predicted for Wednesday evening, while Thursday is expected to be dry, with possible sun rays breaking through the clouds. The temperatures will not fall below -8 degrees Celsius during the night and will rise to around -3 degrees during the day, influenced by a light to moderate northeast breeze. This weather pattern signifies a typical winter day in the region, affecting daily activities and commuting for residents.
