Rain causes flooding on streets and avenues in Natal this Wednesday (11)
Heavy rain in Natal has led to significant flooding in various streets and avenues throughout the city.
On Wednesday, heavy rains impacted Natal, Brazil, causing widespread flooding across many streets and avenues. Residents in the Jardim Primavera area, located in the northern part of the city, experienced worsening conditions due to the overflow from a local lagoon, which contributed to the flooding. The situation was particularly dire in the Rocas neighborhood in the eastern zone, where the water reached the hood of vehicles on certain streets.
By approximately 8 a.m., the Urban Mobility Secretariat of Natal reported at least 15 flood points throughout the capital, five of which were deemed impassable. These included critical areas such as Rua Almino Afonso and Av. Solange Nunes, which were completely underwater. The local government's response includes monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and facilitate efficient drainage efforts.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges that urban centers face regarding drainage and infrastructure resilience during extreme weather events. As climate change continues to exacerbate rainfall patterns, cities like Natal must enhance their preparedness to manage such flooding incidents effectively and mitigate their impacts on residents and local economies.
