Police in Salvador have identified a man captured on security cameras committing sexual harassment against two women in the upscale neighborhood of Graça, although he is not in custody yet.
The Civil Police of Bahia have made significant progress in a recent case of sexual harassment, having identified a suspect involved in two incidents in the Graça neighborhood of Salvador. The events occurred on Thursday, the 5th, and were captured by security cameras. The first incident was reported on Monday, the 9th, involving a woman getting out of a car on Rua 8 de Dezembro. Shortly before, another incident had occurred on Avenida Euclides da Cunha where the suspect approached and molested a woman who was finishing her walk.
In both cases, the suspect exhibited brazen behavior, walking away nonchalantly and laughing at the security cameras after committing the acts. While the police have reported that only one of the incidents was officially registered at the Women’s Police Station (Delegacia de Atendimento à Mulher), the identification of the suspect marks an important step toward apprehending the individual. The police have stated that they are actively pursuing the man, though his identity has not yet been publicly disclosed.
Legally, the actions of this individual fall under Article 215 of Brazil’s Penal Code, which categorizes sexual harassment as a crime punishable by 1 to 5 years of imprisonment. This case has drawn public attention not only for the nature of the crimes but also for the apparent audacity displayed by the suspect, highlighting ongoing societal concerns regarding the safety of women in public spaces in Brazil. The police’s continued efforts to locate the suspect underscore their commitment to addressing such crimes and protecting victims.
