Carnival in Amapá is expected to have a rainy weekend; see forecast
The Amapá carnival is forecasted to experience significant rainfall starting Friday, with warnings issued for potential flooding during the celebrations.
Carnival celebrations in Amapá are expected to be heavily affected by rain, as weather predictions indicate heavy rainfall beginning Friday, February 13th. The Instituto de Pesquisas Científicas e Tecnológicas do Amapá has forecasted that Macapá and its metropolitan area could experience up to 50 millimeters of rain daily, with possible totals reaching 200 millimeters through the Monday holiday. Already, Macapá has faced storm conditions and flooding in at least eight locations following 80 millimeters of rain in just 24 hours earlier this week.
The samba school parades, which are the highlight of the carnival, are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. On the first day of the parades, the weather is expected to include heavy rain, although there may be brief moments of respite throughout the evening. Saturday likewise anticipates cloudy skies with intermittent rainfall, which is expected to lessen by nighttime, offering a brief reprieve on Sunday when sunny conditions are anticipated before more rain may return on Monday.
The implications of the weather forecast extend beyond the enjoyment of carnival, as the heavy rain could lead to increased flooding risks, endangering both participants and attendees. Organizers will need to prepare for possible disruptions to the schedule and ensure safety measures are in place, reflecting the broader context of climate variability affecting local celebrations in Brazil during this festive season.
