A working group has reached a consensus that the dismissal of the general director of LRT (Lithuanian National Radio and Television) should necessitate a two-thirds majority vote among council members. This decision stems from a discussion reflecting on European practices, where regulations concerning the removal of directors vary. Some countries require a simple majority, while others mandate a more stringent two-thirds approval. The proposal highlights the importance of safeguarding appointed individuals from abrupt dismissals, suggesting that maintaining the existing legal framework might be beneficial to provide stability in leadership.

During the meeting, J. Olekas, a member of the working group, noted that maintaining the current law could serve as a positive example, underscoring that the requirement for two-thirds approval would prevent diminishing the protection afforded to individuals appointed to such significant positions. Olekas argued that the process should ensure that dismissals are well-justified, particularly in cases where the director fails to fulfill their responsibilities or breaches public interest.

Additionally, the working group proposed that the LRT council should have the autonomy to choose between secret or open voting in such dismissal cases.
