What is Delhi's Lakhapati Bitiya Scheme, who will get 100,000 rupees and how?
Delhi government launches the Lakhapati Bitiya Scheme to financially support girls’ education and ensure no girl is forced to drop out due to economic difficulties.
The Delhi government has introduced the Lakhapati Bitiya Scheme aimed at enhancing the education and financial security of girls, which is an updated version of the longstanding Laadli Scheme. This initiative seeks to ensure that no girl in the capital city is compelled to discontinue her education due to financial hardships. To achieve this, the government will provide financial assistance from birth through to graduation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that the new system addresses the shortcomings of the previous scheme and that funds will now be distributed directly through digital means, ensuring timely and transparent transactions.
The Lakhapati Bitiya Scheme is designed as a robust social welfare initiative that offers financial support for girls at every stage of their education. Under this program, the government commits to depositing up to 56,000 rupees, which will accrue interest, ultimately exceeding 100,000 rupees by the time the girl graduates. This amount will be credited directly to the girl’s bank account, thereby enhancing financial literacy and independence among young women.
The transition from the earlier Laadli Scheme, which was initiated in 2008 to support girls’ education, reflects a commitment to modernizing the approach to financial aid for education. With these changes, the Delhi government hopes to create a more effective support system that not only fosters educational attainment among girls but also alleviates the economic pressures that can lead to dropping out of school. The strategic use of digital banking is expected to promote transparency and efficiency in distributing these scholarships.
