Estonia is currently facing an unprecedented wave of phone fraud, despite numerous warnings from police, banks, and media outlets, including 'Pealtnägija'. The situation has escalated to the point where official reports indicate that scammers have defrauded individuals and businesses out of 29 million euros in the past year alone, a significant increase from previous years. A key factor contributing to this rise is the use of the Estonian language in these scams, which has become increasingly common. This experiment combines the efforts of both the Russian-speaking 'Pealtnägija' team and journalists from Äripäev to investigate how phone scammers are recruiting Estonian-speaking individuals.
