Double Wednesday No Circulation? Air Quality is Very Bad; Live Report Continues

The air quality in Mexico City is reported to be critically poor, prompting alerts and the potential for environmental contingencies due to high levels of pollutants.

On Tuesday, the Air Quality Service in Mexico City announced a high-risk level due to pollution levels across several municipalities in the capital. By 2:00 PM, air quality was deemed poor at eight monitoring stations in Mexico City and eight in the State of Mexico, with hazardous concentrations of ozone (O3), particulate matter 10 (PM10), and particulate matter 2.5 (PM2.5) being recorded.

The Commission for Environmental Protection of the Megalopolis (CAMe), earlier in the week, indicated that from February 9 to 15, adverse meteorological conditions could exacerbate air quality, leading to potential environmental contingencies related to ozone levels. This warning is attributed to the presence of an anticyclonic circulation in the mid-atmosphere that is forecasted to bring clear skies and intense solar radiation over the Valley of Mexico, along with higher than normal temperatures for this time of year starting from Tuesday.

As a result of these developments, residents are advised to take precautions against the poor air quality conditions, especially for vulnerable populations. This situation highlights ongoing challenges in managing air quality in one of the most populous cities in the world, underlining the need for effective environmental policies and public awareness to combat pollution.
