Search for HIV-fighting medications increases in 2025 in Paraíba, says SES
The demand for HIV medications in Paraíba has surged by over 67% in 2025 compared to 2024, particularly among young individuals aged 15 to 29.
In 2025, the demand for medications that are part of the HIV treatment cocktail in Paraíba has seen a significant increase, according to data collected by Rádio CBN João Pessoa from the State Health Secretariat (SES). Reports indicate that there were 599 requests for these medications in 2025, a 67.32% rise from the 358 requests made in 2024. Notably, December remained the month with the highest demand both years, with 87 requests in 2025 up from 43 in 2024.
The detailed analysis of the data reveals that young people aged 15 to 29 are the primary demographic seeking these HIV treatments. This trend suggests a growing awareness and urgency among the youth regarding HIV and the importance of accessing necessary medical treatments. Additionally, October was another month that saw a notable spike in requests, with numbers virtually doubling from 39 in 2024 to 83 in 2025, indicating that specific periods may contribute to heightened awareness or need.
This notable increase in the search for HIV medications may reflect various underlying factors, such as improved public health messaging, increased accessibility of healthcare, or a heightened sense of vulnerability among young individuals regarding HIV. The SES's data calls for continued monitoring and support strategies to engage youth in ongoing HIV prevention and treatment efforts, ensuring that they have the resources needed to manage their health effectively.
