Rosļikovs Finds Suspicious Items in His Car; State Police and State Security Service Called
A Latvian politician discovered suspicious devices resembling listening and tracking equipment in his car, prompting a response from the State Police and State Security Service.
On Tuesday, Aleksejs Rosļikovs, a member of the Riga City Council and leader of the political party 'Stabilitātei!', found what appear to be listening and tracking devices in his vehicle. He shared a video of this incident on Facebook, which has raised concerns about his privacy and security. Following his discovery, Rosļikovs contacted the State Security Service (VDD) and the State Police (VP) to report the finding, which is currently being investigated.
The State Police confirmed receiving an emergency call regarding the unidentified object located in a 'Mercedes-Benz' parked on Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street in Riga. In the footage released by Rosļikovs, law enforcement officials are seen arriving at his vehicle and examining its central console. The incident has attracted significant attention, primarily due to Rosļikovs's prominent political status and the serious nature of the allegations raised regarding potential surveillance.
Rosļikovs expressed skepticism about the theory that foreign actors may have placed the suspected listening devices in his car. He strongly believes he knows who is responsible and speculates that they might remove the devices themselves. This incident not only raises questions about political surveillance in Latvia but also reflects the broader context of security and privacy concerns in the current geopolitical climate, as the country navigates its own challenges regarding national security and the influence of foreign entities.
