Eight cities in SP have not had homicides in 25 years; seven are in the regions of Prudente, Bauru, and Rio Preto
Two small municipalities in the West region of São Paulo achieved a historic milestone of 25 years without a single homicide recorded.
In a context where public safety is a daily challenge, the small municipalities of Pracinha and São João do Pau d'Alho in the West region of São Paulo reached a remarkable milestone as they celebrated 25 years without recording a single homicide. The data reveals a broader trend in the state, as only eight out of 645 municipalities have maintained a zero homicide rate over the past 25 years. This information comes from a historical series analysis by the São Paulo State Public Security Secretary (SSP-SP), which has been tracking occurrences since 2001.
The report highlights that in 2025, the state recorded its highest number of 'zero homicide' cities, reaching a total of 289, accounting for 45% of all municipalities. This significant achievement showcases improvements in safety and the effectiveness of public security measures over the years. Notably, the cities of Cruzália and Fernão from the Central-West region, along with Dolcinópolis, Santa Salete, and Turiúba from the Northwest of the state, are likewise part of this exclusive group that has achieved 25 years without a homicide.
This record not only emphasizes the success of law enforcement but also reflects the importance of community efforts and local governance in maintaining peace and safety. As the state continues to work towards reducing violence and improving safety measures, the experiences from these municipalities can serve as a potential model for other areas facing challenges with crime rates.
