The cross-country skiers did not dramatize the sprint results - they just wanted better places

Lithuanian cross-country skiers competed in the 1.5 km sprint event at the Winter Olympics, but did not achieve the desired placements.

At the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Lithuania's cross-country skiing team is represented by the same four athletes who competed at the previous Olympics in Beijing. In the 1.5 km sprint event at the Teze skiing stadium, skiers started every 15 seconds, with E. Savickaitė being the first Lithuanian to take to the start line. She completed the distance in 4 minutes and 9.61 seconds, finishing 62nd, 33.4 seconds behind the qualifier's top spot held by Swedish skier Linn Svahn.

During training, the Lithuanian team faced challenges with ski wax, which affected their performance. There were concerns about how these issues would impact their race performance, especially considering the technical nature of the sprint course that features several uphill sections where ski grip is crucial. However, during the race, the weather conditions proved favorable, and the ski preparation was effective, leading to good performance despite the anxious lead-up to the event.

Although Savickaitė expressed satisfaction with her race outcome and the conditions, she also felt disappointment for not finishing higher, indicating a desire to perform better. Her performance in the qualifiers showed promise, and while the team didn't achieve top placements, their efforts reflect the ongoing commitment to improve at such competitive levels.
