Lithuanian skiers Eglė Savickaitė and Ieva Dainytė compete in a 1.5 km classic style sprint race at the Tezer Stadium, with Savickaitė finishing in 63rd place.
Lithuanian athletes Eglė Savickaitė and Ieva Dainytė participated in a 1.5 km classic style cross-country skiing sprint competition held at Tezer Stadium. A total of 89 women athletes entered the sprint, and the top 30 would advance to the quarterfinals. The race format involved participants starting every 15 seconds, which added to the competitive atmosphere of the event.
The race began at 10:15, initiated by Estonia's Mariel Merlii Pulles, and saw Savickaitė being the first of the Lithuanian participants to hit the track at number 76. She completed the distance in 4 minutes and 9.61 seconds, placing her in 63rd position out of the competitors. Following her, Ieva Dainytė was set to start 85th at 10:36:15. As the race progressed, Swedish athlete Linn Svahn recorded the best time of 3 minutes and 36.21 seconds, while her compatriots Jonna Sundling and Johanna Hagstroem claimed the second and third spots, respectively.
Savickaitė commented on the challenging nature of the course, which was characterized by numerous climbs and descents. She noted that while the weather conditions were favorable with sunny skies, the softening of the snow due to the warmth made the track more difficult to navigate, requiring athletes to exert considerable effort in their runs. This event marks an important occasion for Lithuanian winter sports, showcasing the talents and determination of its young athletes on an international stage.
