The Tartu Marathon will be held on the original course in full length
The 52nd Tartu Marathon will take place on the original 63-kilometer course between Otepää and Elva despite concerns about the snow conditions.
The 52nd Tartu Marathon is set to occur on its original route between Otepää and Elva, as confirmed by the organizing team on Tuesday. Leading up to the marathon, concerns regarding the snow coverage on the course had raised apprehensions among the organizers due to a lack of snowfall that typically helps maintain the track. However, recent snowfall has alleviated some of those worries, providing a favorable condition for the event.
Indrek Kelk, the head organizer, noted that the snow cover was particularly thin in the Palu-Elva section of the course, which prompted him to inspect that area closely over the weekend. The latest snowfalls have bolstered the track, and forecasts predict additional snowfall leading up to the event. Furthermore, the race director confirmed that all distances of the marathon can proceed on their original track, ensuring a traditional Tartu Marathon experience for participants.
In terms of track conditions, the course is entirely skiable, featuring a classic track on both sides and a compacted snow base measuring up to 4 cm in depth, primarily between 2-3 cm. Although the skating track is in good condition, participants are advised to stay alert in some areas. With the event drawing near, preparations are underway to ensure an enjoyable and competitive marathon, highlighting the resilience of the event amidst changing weather conditions.
