North Darfur Governor: We are working to reissue identification documents for those who lost them among the displaced

The Governor of North Darfur announced efforts to help displaced individuals in the region obtain new identification documents they lost due to conflicts.

The Governor of North Darfur, Hafiz Bakheit, stated that state authorities are working to facilitate the reissuance of identification documents for individuals who lost them amid the ongoing displacement crisis in the region. This initiative is deemed crucial for enabling displaced persons to carry out necessary transactions. Bakheit highlighted some difficulties related to the reissuance process, particularly concerning national ID numbers and associated fees.

During a press conference in Port Sudan, Bakheit noted that there are efforts at both federal and state levels to ease these procedures and minimize costs as much as possible. He mentioned the establishment of a coordinating committee in each state hosting displaced persons from North Darfur, which focuses on providing essential services including social aid, healthcare, education, and facilitating humanitarian work for organizations operating in the regions of displacement.

Moreover, the governor expressed gratitude towards the states of Khartoum, Northern, White Nile, Kassala, and Gedaref for their support to the displaced from North Darfur, mentioning his visits to these states and his meetings with both the displaced individuals and state officials. This collective initiative underscores the importance of collaboration amongst regional governments to address the challenges faced by displaced populations, aiming to restore their identities and dignity in the process.
