Bus loses control, falls into river and mobilizes teams in the early morning in Petrópolis
A bus in Petrópolis, Brazil, fell into a river early in the morning after the driver lost control, but fortunately, only the driver was on board and was unharmed.
Early Tuesday morning in Petrópolis, Brazil, a bus operated by the Cidade das Hortênsias company fell into a river after the driver lost control of the vehicle. This incident occurred around 3 AM at the intersection of Avenida Tiradentes and Rua da Imperatriz while the bus was on its nighttime route, known as 'Corujão,' which runs between Vale do Carangola and Vicenzo Rivetti. Fortunately, only the driver was present in the bus at the time of the accident, and he reported no injuries.
According to initial reports from the Companhia Petropolitana de Trânsito e Transportes (CPTrans), the driver lost control due to a slippery cobblestone road, caused by recent weather conditions. As the bus was unable to make the turn, it fell directly into the river, taking a tree along with it. This led to significant traffic disruptions in the area as emergency teams and recovery operations began, resulting in a complete blockage of the road between the Cathedral and Praça da Águia for the vehicle's removal.
The accident highlights the challenges faced by motorists in the region, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the bus's loss of control to ensure such incidents can be prevented in the future. The quick response from emergency services underscores the importance of preparedness in handling accidents that can threaten public safety.
