Bus from public transport catches fire and driver controls flames in MT
A bus caught fire in Cuiabá, Brazil, but the driver managed to control the flames and ensure passenger safety without any injuries reported.
On Thursday, a bus from the public transportation service caught fire in the Sucuri Community area of Cuiabá, Brazil. The incident occurred when the driver noticed smoke emanating from the gear lever, prompting him to stop the vehicle and assist passengers in evacuating safely. As shown in a video recorded by passengers, the driver utilized a fire extinguisher from the bus to combat the flames, which were mainly concentrated at the front of the vehicle.
VPAR Transportes, the company operating the bus, confirmed that the driver acted swiftly to extinguish the fire before it escalated into a larger incident. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, and the situation did not necessitate the involvement of the Mato Grosso Military Fire Department. Following the fire, the bus was taken to the garage for a technical assessment, and VPAR is planning to conduct an internal investigation to determine the root cause of the incident and implement necessary measures to prevent future occurrences.
In light of the incident, VPAR announced that the damaged bus would be replaced with one of 14 new buses that recently arrived. This replacement is part of the company's ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and reliable public transportation fleet for the residents of Cuiabá, ensuring that such incidents do not compromise the safety of passengers.
