The Government Supports the Preservation of State Participation in the Road Traffic Safety Directorate

The Latvian government has backed a proposal to maintain state involvement in the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD).

On Tuesday, the Latvian government endorsed the Ministry of Transport's proposal to sustain state participation in the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD). According to the ministry, under the Law on Management of Capital Companies, the state must reassess its direct participation in a capital company at least once every five years to ensure compliance with legal standards. Following this assessment, the ministry asserts that keeping CSDD as a capital company with public participation is the most effective approach for fulfilling its delegated tasks and managing its assets.

The Ministry of Transport highlights that maintaining CSDD in its current form helps prevent market imperfections and guarantees the provision of strategically vital services and asset management. It also ensures legal stability, financial flexibility, and operational continuity, which would be significantly hindered if the agency were transformed into a state agency. Furthermore, the general strategic objective of the CSDD has been approved in its previous version, focusing on ensuring quality and innovative investments to enhance sustainable traffic safety and develop transportation systems.

This decision reflects the government's commitment to fostering a robust public sector role in ensuring road safety and effective traffic management in Latvia. Maintaining state participation is seen as crucial for delivering essential services while navigating the complexities of public infrastructure and safety regulations.
