Coach: A person over 40 cannot stay healthy for long without exercise

In a recent interview on 'Terevisioon', coach Janika Koch-Mäe highlighted the critical role of exercise for individuals over the age of 40. She explained that muscle mass and strength begin to decline in the second half of one's 30s, suggesting that without regular physical activity, it becomes increasingly difficult for this demographic to sustain their health. According to Koch-Mäe, it is particularly crucial to take action between the ages of 36 and 46 to improve long-term health outcomes.

Koch-Mäe shared that muscle strength can decrease by 8% to 17% annually starting in the latter half of the 30s, and she notes that this decline correlates with overall well-being. She asserts that early intervention through exercise can lead to longer and healthier lives as individuals age. Moreover, Koch-Mäe reassures that strength training does not necessarily require a gym; individuals can engage in various forms of physical activity to maintain their fitness.

The coach stresses that while younger bodies are more adaptable and forgiving, those over 35 may start feeling the effects of aging sooner than expected. By prioritizing exercise in their daily routines, individuals in this age group can not only enhance their physical capabilities but also improve their quality of life, thus setting a foundation for better health in their later years.
