Sidewalk collapses and family needs to be rescued during rain in Jundiaí

A family in Jundiaí, Brazil, was rescued after part of their home's sidewalk collapsed due to heavy rain.

In Jundiaí, São Paulo, a family had to be rescued from their home following the collapse of a section of sidewalk during a significant rainstorm on Monday night, September 9. The local Civil Defense reported that a truck on-site contributed additional weight, leading to the sidewalk's failure. The house itself was situated a meter below street level and featured a staircase for access, which also collapsed in the incident.

The family, which included two adults and three children, managed to escape using a makeshift wooden ladder that rescue teams provided. They were safely transported to a temporary shelter following the rescue. Authorities also deemed the neighboring house uninhabitable, citing the risk of further collapses as the conditions continued to pose dangers, prompting ongoing evaluations of the site by municipal teams.

As heavy rains persist, the city’s infrastructure faces scrutiny, with emergency teams assessing the potential risks for other vulnerable areas. This incident highlights the challenges posed by flooding and the importance of timely emergency responses and infrastructure resilience in regions prone to adverse weather conditions like São Paulo.
