Traffic Violation Denial Incident Leads to Punishment of Officer Who Paid Fine Out of Pocket
A police officer in Japan has been disciplined for attempting to avoid investigating a traffic violation by falsifying documents and paying the fine himself.
The Aomori Prefectural Police announced on the 19th that a male police officer in his twenties at a local police station was suspended for one month after he created false documents to avoid investigating a traffic violation case where the accused denied the offense. The incident occurred on February 27 of last year, when the officer discovered a driver violating traffic laws by talking on a mobile phone while driving. The driver initially admitted to the violation but later changed his plea to not guilty in March, necessitating a formal investigation. However, with a transfer scheduled for April, the officer sought to avoid the trouble of conducting an investigation, leading him to think it would be easier to pay the fine himself and fabricate documents indicating that the violation never occurred.
