Last night it froze very unevenly: in some places only -12, in others -27 degrees of frost

Lithuania experienced extreme temperature variations during the night, with the coldest recorded at -26.9 degrees in Šeduva, although this is still well above the historical record of -33.3 degrees set in 1940.

Lithuania saw significant fluctuations in overnight temperatures, with the lowest being a biting -26.9 degrees Celsius recorded in Šeduva. Other areas like Joniškis and Ukmergė also reported very low temperatures, but still shy of historical lows. The weather service noted that despite the severity of this cold snap, it fell more than six degrees short of the record low temperature set back on February 10, 1940, in Lazdijai, which was -33.3 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologists predict a warming trend over the coming days, although conditions will remain uncomfortable. On Tuesday, high-pressure systems will recede, leading to overcast skies throughout the country with brief light snow expected in some areas. Winds from the south and southeast will blow at speeds of 5–10 m/s, with afternoon temperatures projected to ease slightly to about -7 to -12 degrees Celsius.

As the week progresses, the influence of a lower pressure system will intensify, bringing cloudy nights with light snow across much of the country. Winds will continue from the south and southeast at 4–9 m/s, and nighttime temperatures are expected to range from -8 to -13 degrees Celsius, with some areas experiencing moments of sunshine resulting in slightly milder temperatures around -16 degrees Celsius.
