A resident of Jonava district caused a fire while heating his car engine with an electric heater – firefighters barely managed to save the house

A car fire in Jonava district, caused by an electric heater used to warm the engine, prompted a quick response from firefighters who managed to save a nearby house.

On February 9th, firefighters in Jonava district responded to a call regarding a fire involving a light vehicle in the village of Ručiūnai, located in Kulvos municipality. The Kaunas Fire Rescue Service reported that upon arrival, they found the engine compartment of a Volvo XC 90 engulfed in flames. The fire originated from an electric heater that was being used by a local resident to warm up the engine before starting the car. During the incident, significant damage occurred, particularly to the front parts of the vehicle, which burned extensively, while thermal effects also damaged the car's glass. Fortunately, the firefighters were able to prevent further disaster by saving a one-story brick residential house that was only one meter away from the fire. Aside from the vehicle damage, two glass packages in the house were damaged due to the heat. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, highlighting the dangers associated with using electric heaters for vehicle maintenance. This incident serves as a reminder of the precautions that should be taken when dealing with automotive repairs and warming procedures, especially in residential areas.
