Moselle: a mobile swimming pool truck to teach swimming to schoolchildren far from pools
A mobile swimming pool truck is traveling through Moselle to teach swimming to schoolchildren in rural areas who are far from municipal pools.
In Moselle, France, an innovative mobile swimming pool truck has been introduced to address the need for swimming lessons among schoolchildren in rural communities. This blue truck is equipped with a shower, toilets, changing rooms, and a swimming pool measuring eight meters by two meters. It provides an invaluable service to villages like Verny, where students can walk just two minutes from their classrooms to learn how to swim without the hassle of traveling long distances to municipal pools.
The mobile swimming pool is particularly beneficial during the winter months, allowing children as young as six years old, including those in CP (Cours Préparatoire), to safely experience swimming. Initially, the pool's depth is set at 30 cm, which can be adjusted to accommodate different skill levels by lowering the pool floor at the press of a button. Lessons are conducted in small groups of five, with each session lasting an hour, including time for changing and showering, making it a convenient and effective way to introduce basic swimming skills.
This initiative highlights the ongoing effort to promote aquatic education and safety among young children, especially in regions that lack easy access to swimming facilities. By bringing the pool directly to the students, this program not only increases participation in swimming lessons but also addresses the safety concerns associated with rural children who may otherwise be unable to gain these essential life skills. The mobile swimming pool truck represents a significant step in ensuring that all children, regardless of their geographical location, have the opportunity to learn how to swim.
