'Special 26' Style Fraud, Student Becomes Fake Income Tax Officer
In Uttar Pradesh, a student posing as a fake income tax officer was arrested for attempting to extort money from a farmer.
In a recent scam reminiscent of the Bollywood film 'Special 26', a student named Mohit was caught impersonating a fake income tax officer in the Akhtiyarpur village of Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh. Mohit, who is studying law in Amroha, approached a farmer named Sheeshpal and claimed that he was entitled to ₹2 crores of illicit money, demanding ₹24 lakh as a bribe in the form of a 12% penalty. The farmer grew suspicious and managed to keep Mohit engaged in conversation while alerting the police.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police arrested Mohit with fake identification cards and forged documents, solidifying the claims against him. He had orchestrated the entire operation alongside an accomplice, complete with a counterfeit authority letter and identification from the income tax department. Mohit issued a phony notice against the farmer's son, citing illicit property and demanding a substantial fine, further demonstrating the premeditated nature of his fraudulent activity.
The investigation revealed that this was not Mohit's first attempt at scamming individuals, suggesting a pattern of criminal behavior. His swift arrest, facilitated by the farmer's vigilance, underscores the ongoing issue of fraud in rural areas and highlights the need for increased awareness and protection against such deceitful practices in the community.
