Increase of the mandatory employment rate for disabled individuals in private companies to 3.5% by 2029
The South Korean government plans to raise the mandatory employment rate for disabled individuals in private companies from 3.1% to 3.3% next year and to 3.5% by 2029.
The South Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on October 10 that it has decided to increase the mandatory employment rate for disabled individuals in private companies from the current 3.1% to 3.3% in 2024 and to 3.5% by 2029. This measure comes after the public sector saw increases in its mandatory employment rate over the past few years, while the private sector rates had been stagnant since 2019. The government aims to enhance job opportunities for disabled individuals, addressing disparities that have persisted, especially highlighted during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, which delayed earlier efforts to adjust the private sector rates. Currently, the employment rate for disabled individuals stands at only 34% compared to a general employment rate of 63.8% for the broader population.
