Cucumber producer Grüne Fee expands production by one third

Estonia's largest cucumber producer, Grüne Fee, is expanding its production capacity by one third due to increased demand and declining sales of domestic cucumbers in retail.

Grüne Fee, the largest cucumber producer in Estonia, has announced a significant expansion of its production capabilities by one third as a response to a growing demand for cucumbers amid declining sales figures for domestic cucumbers in retail. The company stated that they are modernizing their production facilities because the current greenhouses have aged and need replacement. The new greenhouse is projected to cover roughly one third of their production area and is expected to substantially increase their yield.

Currently, Grüne Fee operates greenhouses that produce around 3,300 tons of cucumbers annually, with the new greenhouse set to increase the capacity by over 1,400 tons per year. This enhancement is part of a longer-term strategy where they will eventually replace one of their older greenhouses. The company, represented by board member Kristo Eisenberg, anticipates that the new greenhouse will provide at least a 50% greater yield per square meter compared to the current older facilities, ultimately contributing to a higher overall production volume.

As the domestic cucumber market faces challenges with prices reaching competitive levels, this expansion could play a vital role in stabilizing supply and addressing the market demands for locally produced cucumbers. The company's commitment to improve its production efficiency reflects a proactive approach to maintain a competitive edge in the local agricultural sector.
