FRSC to penalise one-way drivers on Lagos–Ibadan Expressway
The Federal Road Safety Corps warns motorists to adhere to traffic regulations on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, particularly against one-way driving during ongoing repairs.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists using the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway against the dangerous practice of driving against traffic. This warning comes in light of ongoing repair works at the Kara Bridge, which has caused significant traffic congestion. Kehinde Hamzat, the Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, stated that the Corps will not hesitate to penalise offenders, regardless of their status or position, emphasizing the need for compliance with traffic regulations.
During an assessment of the traffic situation, Hamzat expressed frustration over the continued violations by some government and security vehicles, which undermines the efforts of the FRSC to maintain order on the roads. He highlighted that such actions are unacceptable and represent an abuse of office. Additionally, he reassured the public that the details of offending vehicles would be noted and appropriate reports would be made, indicating a commitment to accountability among government officials.
The FRSC also noted that penalties imposed by respective agencies for internal violations tend to be more severe than those administered by the FRSC itself. This suggests a hierarchical approach to enforcement among governmental agencies, where internal sanctions could potentially deter misbehavior more effectively than external penalties alone. The overarching message from the FRSC is clear: adherence to traffic rules is imperative for safety, especially during times of increased roadway challenges.
