Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Tõnu Kaljuste Start Tour in North America
The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste, is touring North America with performances in the US and Canada featuring a diverse repertoire, including works by notable composers and a world premiere by Estonian composer Riho Esko Maimets.
The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir (EFK) is conducting a tour in North America from February 8 to 17, where they will perform six concerts across the United States and Canada under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste. The choir's repertoire includes a rich selection of pieces by Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, Luciano Berio, Evelin Seppari, and Philip Glass. Highlighting the tour is a world premiere of a new work by Estonian composer Riho Esko Maimets, set to take place in Toronto.
The tour kicked off successfully on February 8 at James Madison University's Forbes Center in Harrisonburg, where the audience gave a standing ovation for the performance. On the same day, Tõnu Kaljuste also led a masterclass with local youth choir The Madison Singers, focused on rehearsing Arvo Pärt's piece "The Deer’s Cry." At the end of the masterclass, Kaljuste gifted the signed score of the piece to the choir's conductor, Dr. Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromyle, further connecting the choir with the acclaimed composer.
The subsequent concerts will take place at various prestigious venues, including the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, Sauder Concert Hall at Goshen College, Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, Yorkminster Park Baptist Church in Toronto, and Maison Symphonique in Montreal, showcasing the global reach and cultural exchange that the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir aims to foster through their music.
