Good news about electric cars
A recent study shows that electric cars have a lower accident risk compared to combustion engine vehicles in Finland, according to the Traffic Insurance Center.
The Traffic Insurance Center in Finland has reported that the accident risk for electric vehicles is lower than that of traditional combustion engine cars. This conclusion comes from research indicating that fully electric cars are involved in fewer accidents that lead to injuries compared to their combustion counterparts. Despite this, the overall risk of serious accidents in personal vehicles has not decreased in Finland over the past decade, suggesting a stagnation in vehicle safety advancements.
According to Tapio Koisaari, the technology manager at the Traffic Insurance Center, while there was significant progress in road safety in the early 2000s, this positive trend has now appeared to plateau. He notes that although active safety systems that assist drivers are becoming more common in vehicles, the rate of improvement in vehicle safety has been surprisingly modest over the last ten years.
An additional study conducted by Aalto University aimed to determine whether the type of fuel influences the frequency of accidents. However, no significant differences were found in accident rates among vehicles powered by different energy sources. The findings suggest that while electric cars may offer some safety advantages, the overall safety improvements in vehicle technology have not met expectations in recent years, indicating a need for renewed efforts in enhancing vehicle safety across all types of cars.
