SP Escola de Teatro becomes a college of performing arts and offers a free course

SP Escola de Teatro in São Paulo is being transformed into a college of performing arts, offering a free two-year technology degree in scenic production starting this semester.

SP Escola de Teatro, which has operated for 16 years, is transitioning into a new institution known as SP Escola Superior de Teatro - Faculdade das Artes do Palco, following accreditation by Brazil's Ministry of Education. This change signifies a significant evolution in the institution, which has offered free courses since 2010 and technical programs since 2017.

The newly established college will provide a two-year degree program in scenic production at no cost to students, marking a step towards increasing accessibility to higher education in the arts in Brazil. The decision reflects ongoing efforts by the São Paulo government, through its Secretariat of Culture, Economy, and Creative Industries, to foster artistic talent and support the cultural landscape of the region.

Student admissions will continue to follow the existing procedures, with assessments including writing tests, interviews, and specific activities by specialization. The college will maintain its traditional semester admissions, providing opportunities for new students to join both in the beginning of the year and mid-year, solidifying its commitment to fostering artistic education and production in the heart of São Paulo.
